This course is designed for individuals who need to safely access the rail track to operate a rail-bound machine within a defined worksite during rail maintenance or construction activities. Participants will learn how to conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks, stable self-propelled on-track vehicles safely, operate on-track equipment, and complete all required documentation. The course covers the operation of all medium/heavy types of rail-bound on-track vehicles in accordance with network safety requirements.

Upon successful completion of all required assessments, students will be issued a:
Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment:
TLIC2054 Access rail track to run track vehicle within defined worksite
TLIC2058 Travel medium or heavy self-propelled on-track equipment
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, however in alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations, the following is needed for course admission:
- A valid Category 1 Rail Medical assessment
- CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
- TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
- TLIB0012 Maintain and use hand tools
- TLIB2085 Apply track fundamentals
- TLID0020 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
- TLIE1003 Participate in basic workplace communication
- TLIF0025 Follow work health and safety procedures
- TLIF2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
- TLIU2008 Apply environmental procedures to rail infrastructure
- Access to a suitable Rail-Bound Vehicle or Machine for the duration of the course
- Access to a rail track location where you can operate the vehicle or machine. These practical activities must be demonstrated a minimum of three (3) times during the course.

- Completing this course can support further development and career progression within the rail industry and provide a pathway to TLI27221 Certificate II in Rail Track Vehicle Driving
Delivery Mode
This course is delivered through one day of classroom-based learning and includes knowledge assessments, an in-field demonstrations, and practical observations to evaluate both theoretical understanding and hands-on competence.
